Fandango broke a new clip from Pixar's upcoming Inside Out 2. In it, Anxiety (Maya Hawke) bottles up some of the other Inside Out emotions such as Joy (Amy Poehler) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).

The Inside Out 2 clip begins with Anxiety talking to the crew. She is a new character/emotion introduced in the sequel. While she initially seems remorseful for her actions, she teams with Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser) to trap the group.

“I am truly sorry, I was so looking forward to working with you guys,” Anxiety says. “Riley's life is more complex now — it requires more sophisticated emotions than all of you. You just aren't what she needs anymore, Joy.”

Joy quickly rebuttals, “You can't just bottle us up!” which gives Anxiety her idea to trap them. Along with Sadness are Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Liza Lapira), and Fear (Tony Hale).

Going off of the context of the scene shown in the Inside Out 2 clip, which isn't much, it appears Anxiety oversteps her boundaries. She probably initially sounds like she wants to be helpful but ultimately wants the new emotions to take over Riley's head. Anxiety, Embarrassment, Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Envy (Ayo Edebiri) are among the new emotions discovered in the sequel.

What is Inside Out 2 about?

Inside Out 2 is the long-awaited sequel to the 2015 film, Inside Out and follows Riley (Kensington Tallman), who is now a teenager, as she discovers the new emotions that come with that part of life.

Per Pixar, the official synopsis reads: “Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.”

Kelsey Mann makes her directorial debut with the film. She has worked with Pixar for years dating back to 2013's Monsters University. Her work includes Onward, Soul, Luca, Turning Red, and Elemental.

While Mann developed the story with Meg LeFauve, she did not write the script. LeFauve wrote the script with Dave Holstein. At least there is some continuity from the previous film.

Pete Docter directed the first Inside Out film and co-wrote the script with LeFauve and Josh Cooley. Docter had developed the idea with Ronnie del Carmen.

Inside Out is one of Pixar's most successful films. After premiering at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, Disney released the film in June 2015. During its theatrical run, the film made over $850 million worldwide.

Pixar's recent box office trend

Currently, Inside Out is the fifth highest-grossing film (domestically) in Pixar's history. It is behind the likes of fellow sequels Toy Story 3 and 4, Finding Dory, and Incredibles 2 — which all made over $1 billion at the box office. However, at the worldwide box office, Inside Out is behind Finding Nemo ($871 million).

Pixar is likely hoping that Inside Out 2 continues its trend of successful sequels. Recent films Turning Red, Luca, and Soul didn't get traditional theatrical releases. Lightyear was a flop after making just $226 million and Elemental had to leg out to $496 million after a disappointing open (an impressive feat, nonetheless).

Inside Out 2 will be released on June 14.
