Uncut Gems from the Safdie Brothers inspired Pixar's Inside Out 2.

In an interview with Animation Magazine, Adam Habib cited Uncut Gems' cinematography as a big influence on the Inside Out 2. Anxiety (Maya Hawke) is introduced in the film — which makes the Safdie Brothers' film the perfect inspiration.

“The shaky cinematography of the Safdie Brothers movie inspired their technique,” the feature read. “The Inside Out 2 animation team built static sets during production and then put the digital characters inside those sets. Then they put a virtual camera that could be used like a camera for a live-action film inside the sets.

“Once this was done, they would move the virtual camera around the sets they’d made to try out new angles and shot setups to see what would work best for the movie,” it continued.

Uncut Gems is a film directed by the Safdie Brothers and stars Adam Sandler as Howard Ratner. Howard is a chronic gambler in New York City's Diamond District. To pay off his debts, he must retrieve an expensive gem. At the same time, loan sharks are breathing down his neck.

Aside from Sandler, Julia Fox, Idina Menzel, and Kevin Garnett also star in the film.

For an A24 film, Uncut Gems was a big hit. The film made over $50 million during its theatrical run. It is one of the highest-grossing films in A24's history as a studio.
