Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell was on SiriusXM NFL Radio to discuss the rumors going around that a Yannick Ngakoue trade was imminent. He pushed back against those rumors.

Recently, plenty of trade rumors have been circulating around the Jaguars and star defensive lineman Ngakoue.

While the rumors have been around for a while, they have gotten extremely hot in the last few days. So much so, that it was made to seem that a trade was basically done at this point.

Michael Lombardi of “The Athletic” took to Twitter to break that news.

However, now it appears Caldwell is already dispelling those rumors – not even a full day later.

In his interview on Sirius XM NFL Radio, Caldwell had this to say:

“The unsubstantiated report really kinda caught me off guard too,” Caldwell said. “I don’t know where it came from or who it came from, but if he’s being traded I wish someone would let me know. Obviously we’ve had discussions with teams, but as of 1 o’clock today that report was pretty erroneous.”

Caldwell is not denying that the Jaguars have had discussions with other teams – likely about Ngakoue. He isn't pretending like that is not going on.

The report that Ngakoue was basically gone and a deal would be done in the next few days really tripped him up though.

The fact that Caldwell is not denying Jacksonville shopping Ngakoue is what makes him so believable here. It's not like he's telling everyone that the relationship is perfect and they are working on a big contract or anything.

Caldwell is simply saying that, as of right now, Ngakoue is not “extremely close” to being traded from Jacksonville.

The Jaguars have made it clear that they are asking for a King's ransom in return for the superstar defensive lineman. He's already racked up 37.5 sacks in four seasons and is only getting better. So nothing less than a team overpaying for him will likely do.

With that in mind, Jacksonville seems more than happy to wait until someone brings them that offer.

Ngakoue very well could be traded at some point in 2020. But as of right now, Jacksonville general manager Caldwell says any rumors that he's “extremely close” to being traded are simply false.
