The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a brutal loss to the Baltimore Ravens, a 36-35 setback caused by a late fumble. It was Patrick Mahomes' first loss to the Ravens and Lamar Jackson. The Chiefs now move on to face their division rival in the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Chargers sit at 1-1 on the season and are following a 20-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. While the Chargers aren't a favorite like the Chiefs in the AFC, they are loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. Budding star Justin Herbert has followed up his record-breaking rookie campaign with solid performances through the first two weeks. He hasn't played at the level people were expecting, but that could all change against the Chiefs.

This game is primed to be a significant clash between the two division rivals.

Chiefs Week 3 Predictions

4. Tyrann Mathieu picks off Justin Herbert

Tyrann Mathieu is one of the best safeties in the NFL, and he has shown that this season. Through the first two games, Mathieu has two interceptions and a touchdown. He is the leader of the Chiefs secondary and is always ready to make a play.

Herbert has also struggled with turnovers so far this season. He has thrown three interceptions to only two touchdowns. It's been a slow start for Herbert, and Mathieu needs to take advantage of that and force a turnover.

3. Travis Kelce goes over 100 yards

Travis Kelce is simply one of the best weapons in the NFL. He is a model of consistency as he has gone for over 1,000 yards every season since 2016. Kelce has kept up the same level of play this season as he had seven receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown last week. Even though teams come up with a gameplan to neutralize Kelce, he has proven time and time again that he will still put up numbers.

2. Chiefs win in a close game

Although the Chargers have a good roster, the Chiefs should still pull out the win. The Chiefs have been in the Conference Championship every year since Mahomes took over, and they look ready to get back to that stage again. Despite the loss to the Ravens last week, Mahomes and the Chiefs are still the team to beat in the AFC.

However, it is not going to be a blowout victory for the Chiefs. The Chargers improved their team drastically in the offseason, which makes them a potential Wild Card team. Herbert has an improved offensive line as well as a more talented defense to back him up. Look for the Chiefs to pick up the win in a tightly contested game.

1. Patrick Mahomes throws four touchdowns

Patrick Mahomes has shown once again why he is one of the best players in the league. Mahomes has thrown for 680 yards, six touchdowns, and only one interception through his first two games. He has shown the ability to carve up opposing defenses, and he will have that opportunity against the Chargers. The Chargers improved unit has looked good, but containing Mahomes is a different task.

Mahomes has the weapons in Tyreek Hill and Kelce to shred this Chargers defense. The Chiefs revamped offensive line will give him time to throw to his targets downfield. Look for Mahomes to have a dominant showing against the Chargers.

Division games are always crucial as they can affect the seeding down the line. This Cheifs-Chargers week three matchup may seem insignificant, but it could have significant ramifications come January.
