Karl-Anthony Towns (KAT) became just the second Minnesota Timberwolves player to ever score 10,000 points for the franchise, joining NBA Hall-of-Famer Kevin Garnett in the club on Wednesday night during Minnesota's 124-107 road victory over the Denver Nuggets.

Towns was a big part of the reason that Minnesota won the game and is one of the biggest components of the team's overall success in 2021. In Wednesday night's game alone, Towns had 32 points, four rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block in just under 36 minutes of playing time.

That is pretty much what Towns has done all year with averages of 24 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and one steal per game. What is even more amazing about Towns is that those numbers are down from his career averages across the board. He is sacrificing his numbers for the good of the team and it is showing up in the standings for his team. The Timberwolves are just 13-15 but that includes two straight road wins and victories over the 76ers, Heat, and Lakers. They are also currently in the seventh spot in the West standings. The West is the tougher of the two NBA conferences and any playoff team from that side of the league is definitely a very good team.

If KAT can continue to play this well and the team sees Anthony Edwards continue to make strides, the Timberwolves may be able to challenge for a top-six seed. That would be a huge improvement on the Timberwolves post-Garnett reality. Since the big man was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2007, the franchise has just one playoff appearance– a first-round loss to the Houston Rockets in 2018.
