Another week, another close victory for the Oakland Raiders.
Other than a Week 2 loss to the Falcons, Oakland has a pair of one-point wins over the Saints and Ravens, as well as a one-score victory over the Titans. It hasn't been easy for the Raiders, but they're 3-1.
It's their best start since 2002, when they began the season 4-0. They made the Super Bowl that year.
A big part of Oakland's success is the clutch play of quarterback Derek Carr. In each of their one-point wins, Carr has driven the offense down the field for the winning score in the final minutes. He was especially precise on Sunday, completing 71.4 percent of his passes. He completed four touchdowns, three to Michael Crabtree.
After Carr's latest theatrics, star linebacker Khalil Mack showered his starting QB with praise, bestowing a title on him reserved for the likes of Anakin Skywalker and Harry Potter.
From Scott Bair of CSNBayArea.com:
“DC is the chosen one,” Khalil Mack said. “He did it again. He pulled it out for us. Defensively, we wanted to be sure we held it out for them at the end.”
Head coach Jack Del Rio was complimentary of Carr as well:
“We have confidence that No. 4 can get it done and leads,” Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio said. “He’s very poised making decisions. There was some tough sledding there against a really good defense, and he just continues to play at a high level. He’s really good getting his feet right to make accurate throws.
“Smart, tough and accurate. That’s what we have in Derek Carr.”
