The Sacramento Kings have added a little bit of championship pedigree to their roster, signing three-time NBA champion JaVale McGee. McGee will add depth at the center position behind three-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis.

McGee has bounced around the league over the course of his career, playing for eight different teams so far in his 15 years in the NBA. While he is limited in terms of what he can do on the court and has been perhaps the most consistent member of the Shaqtin' a Fool showreel, McGee has carved out a decent career as a back-up five and his presence has become synonymous with success for multiple teams, particularly in recent years.

McGee played for the Warriors during both their 2017 and 2018 championships. He subsequently moved to the Lakers, who of course famously won the bubble championship in 2020, McGee's second season with the team.

In the three seasons since that triumph, he has played on four different teams, and along with the fact that he is 35 years of age that doesn't exactly point to a long stay in Sacramento. He's planning to sign just a one-year deal, but the Kings will be hoping that history repeats itself, with the success that has followed McGee in recent years following him to Sacramento.

JaVale McGee won't have a major role to play for the Kings, with Sabonis playing big minutes and the two never likely to share the court. He'll battle it out with Alex Len for the back-up minutes at center after Richaun Holmes was shipped to Dallas on draft night – incidentally the team which McGee is coming from. But while his on-court influence will be minimal, the signing of a perennial back-up on contenders is an indication of the Kings' goals over the coming couple of years.
