The entire basketball world was pretty much blindsided by the unanticipated trade that went down on Thursday, which sent New York Knicks big Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks.
As expected, New York Knicks fans were shocked by the news, and some of them did not take it as well as others. Take for instance actor/comedian Michael Rapaport, who is a New York City native and a very passionate Knicks fan. Upon learning of the deal, he took to Twitter to share his not-so-calm thoughts about the matter.
This profanity-laced tirade pretty much sums up how every single Knicks faithful must have felt as soon as they heard of the blockbuster deal. Sorry, Mike (and to other Knicks fans as well) — we definitely feel your pain — but this is just too funny.
Knicks fans are one of the most passionate supporters in the entire league, and Porzingis' decision to turn their back on them obviously left a bad taste of betrayal in their mouths.
Nevertheless, we're sure Rapaport must have somewhat calmed down after a few hours, especially once he realized what the Knicks got in return for the deal. This was a great move by the Knicks front office as they were able to act very quickly and got pretty much the best they could given the circumstances.
By dumping the salaries of Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee, the team have opened up a ton of cap space for the summer to reportedly sign at least two max players (hello Kevin Durant?). Oh, and let's not forget that the team are still very much in the running to land the first overall pick in the upcoming Draft, so if everything falls into place, we could see Zion Williamson in New York next season.
Losing Porzingis was definitely a tough blow, but there is no denying that the future is extremely bright for the Knicks.
