Kristaps Porzingis is officially a member of the Dallas Mavericks, as New York Knicks general manager Scott Perry has announced the franchise has traded Porzingis, guards Courtney Lee, Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. to Dallas in exchange for second-year point guard Dennis Smith Jr., high-flyer DeAndre Jordan, small forward Wesley Matthews and two future first round picks.

The Knicks drafted Kristaps Porzingis with the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. At the time, fans in New York didn't like the pick and even booed Porzingis on draft night.

Once he stepped on the basketball floor, though, Kristaps Porzingis quickly became a fan favorite with his powerful putback dunks and 3-point shooting. Porzingis had a rocky relationship with ex-president Phil Jackson and ex-head coach Jeff Hornacek. Under new management, led by Scott Perry and new coach David Fizdale, the Knicks were hoping to build around KP and keep him in the Big Apple for the next decade.

However, Kristaps Porzingis reportedly didn't trust the Knicks to turn the franchise into a winner and he had a meeting with the front office on Thursday. After the meeting ended, New York's brass decided that it would be best for both sides to part ways.

Kristaps Porzingis is still recovering from the ACL tear he suffered last season.
