The extension restriction of Los Angeles Lakers superstar Anthony Davis has been lifted, per Bobby Marks of ESPN.

This now opens the possibility for Davis to sign a four-year extension with the Lakers worth $146 million:

According to Marks, Davis also has the option to wait until July to bank in on a larger payday and sign a five-year $202 million contract, should he opt out of the final year (worth $28.8 million) of his current deal.

Extending Davis now would obviously be in the best interests of the franchise. It would eliminate the possibility of him bolting Hollywood this summer after the Lakers traded a major haul for him.

While there's no reason to expect Davis to sign this extension now, it's still hard to see him leaving the marquee franchise after just one season, even if he has been rather coy about what he's thinking. Davis is expected to take the reigns in Los Angeles and become the undisputed face of the Lakers once LeBron James finally decides to hang up his sneakers.

However, the superstar tandem still has unfinished business to settle together. Anthony Davis and LBJ have their sights set on winning the 17th NBA championship for the storied Lakers franchise.

The two have definitely started off their partnership on the right foot as they have displayed tremendous chemistry playing alongside each other, leading the Lakers to a blistering 29-7 start. Of course, none of this would matter if they don't bring the Larry O'Brien Trophy to their side of Hollywood in June.
