After the Houston Rockets exiled and traded him to the Chicago Bulls last season, Carmelo Anthony was waived by the Bulls and many thought Melo would somehow wind up on the Los Angeles Lakers since LeBron James was on the team.

The Lakers, though, never signed Anthony despite having James on the roster.

Now on the Portland Trail Blazers and fresh off of winning the Western Conference Player of the Week Award, Anthony says he never called James to get him a roster spot on the Lakers.

“I never called him and said, ‘What're we doin'?' Or ‘I need you to do this for me,' ” Anthony told ESPN‘s Rachel Nichols. “I would never do that. I would never put him in that situation. I don't know what he's doin' on his side, but I would never put him, as a friend, as a brother, in that situation. Right, and I know for a fact, he would go to bat for me, but I don't feel comfortable putting people in that situation, whether you're my friend or not.”

Anthony was once again linked to the Lakers this past summer, but LA opted not to sign the future Hall of Famer. The same goes for the Brooklyn Nets, whose stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving pushed management to sign Anthony, but nothing materialized.

The Blazers signed Anthony to a non-guaranteed deal and he's playing well for Portland. Anthony is averaging 17.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists in six games with Portland.
