Kobe Bryant is inching closer to his jersey retirement, and on Thursday, he shed some light on which number he would've chosen had been the one in charge.

In a conversation with Chris McGee on Spectrum Sportsnet's “Backstage Lakers,” Bryant said he would have preferred that his No. 24 be the one that was retired, via Lakers Nation.

“No, I didn’t want [a vote on which number to retire]. It’s an honor that comes from the organization,” Bryant said. “It doesn’t come from me. … I guess I would just go with the number in which I retired, I guess that would be my logic.”

Both numbers that Kobe Bryant used during his career will be retired by the Los Angeles Lakers — No. 8 and No. 24. There was some debate over which one would be lifted to the rafters when the time came, but the organization chose to hoist both.

Bryant will be the first player ever to have two numbers retired. Not even Michael Jordan, who wore No. 23 and No. 45 in this career, got that kind of treatment.

It makes sense to have both Bryant's numbers retired. He won three straight championships while wearing No. 8, and won a back-to-back and an MVP while donning No. 24.

While it's a tad ridiculous for any one player to get two numbers retired, it's not the player's choice. So if haters want to get upset over it, blame the Lakers organization, not Bryant.

Kobe Bryant's jersey retirement will take place Dec. 18.
