Following an incredibly disappointing season wrought with injuries, the Los Angeles Lakers have fired longtime athletic trainer Marco Nunez, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

Nunez originally joined the Lakers for the 2008-09 campaign as an assistant and had remained with the organization ever since. Then, after the retirement of Gary Vitti in 2016, Nunez was promoted to the head athletic trainer role.

This season, Lakers players missed a whopping 212 games to injury, the most in the NBA.

No one on the roster seemed safe from the injury bug, as even LeBron James, who has been the epitome of health throughout his 16-year NBA career, missed over a month due to a groin issue.

Los Angeles fell to the Portland Trail Blazers by a score of 104-101 on Tuesday night, finishing with a record of 37-45 on the year.

This was not how things were supposed to go in James' first season with the club.

After signing LeBron last July, the Lakers seemed poised to bring in another big name to join him, but Paul George signed back with the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs traded Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors.

The Lakers then attempted to acquire Anthony Davis in a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans before the Feb. 7 trade deadline, but their efforts were rebuffed in spite of reportedly making the Pelicans a Godfather offer that included all of their young talent plus draft picks.

To put the cherry on top, Magic Johnson stepped down team as the team's president of basketball operations on Tuesday.
