What an evening it was for Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James. In his team's matchup against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, the 34-year-old was able to surpass NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan in the league's all-time scoring list.

James made history in the second quarter of the contest by scoring on an and-one play that would allow him to surpass Jordan's 32,292 career points. As it turns out, however, LeBron actually envisioned the moment to be quite different:

While it was no fadeaway or an MJ-patented fastbreak jam, LeBron's historic basket was quite poetic nonetheless. James' power move did have shades of Jordan, with the extended hang time and double pump finish.

Unfortunately for LeBron, though, his historic feat was somewhat overshadowed by his team's overall performance on the evening. James was his usual dominant self, scoring 31 points on 13-of-22 shooting, along with two three-pointers, seven rebounds, seven assists, a steal, and a block. However, he had very little help from an undermanned Lakers squad who were missing the services of Brandon Ingram (shoulder), Kyle Kuzma (ankle), Tyson Chandler (neck), and Lonzo Ball (ankle).

While the Lakers put up a valiant effort, the Nuggets eventually proved too overwhelming for L.A., as the visiting team came away with a 115-99 victory. That's now four straight defeats for the hapless Lakers, and it appears that a playoff spot has now become out of reach for James and company.
