The Los Angeles Lakers may have missed on the Paul George sweepstakes but it’s still fair to say that they are feeling as though they just won the Powerball when they secured the biggest free agent of them all in LeBron James. For Lakers head coach Luke Walton, the moment he learned that the three-time NBA champion is going to be donning Purple and Gold colors had left his senses, teetering on the edge of what’s real and what’s not, per Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

“I sat under the stars and said to myself, ‘Damn, we got LeBron James on our team,'” he said. “‘The best player in the world is a Laker.'”

After several months of speculations over where exactly James would bring his talents next beyond the 2017-18 season, the four-time MVP put a conclusion to the narrative by agreeing to a massive four-year deal with the Lakers before sealing the negotiation by putting pen to paper on Monday.

Any head coach would die to have a LeBron James on his team. James has proven with a near-impeccable consistency that he can transform any team into a legitimate title contender, something that the Lakers have not been over the past several seasons. With James in the fold, the Lakers are expected to exceed their 35-win output a season ago and make their first appearance in the playoffs since 2013.

From sitting under the stars to coaching a superstar beginning next season, Luke Walton sure has an interesting job ahead of him.
