Even before the Los Angeles Lakers officially announced Frank Vogel's firing on Monday, Juwan Howard already emerged as a potential candidate as his successor. It has now been revealed, however, that the Lakers might need to look elsewhere with Howard virtually taking himself out of the race.

In an article for the Los Angeles Times, Broderick Turner reports that Howard would much rather stay on as the head coach of Michigan as opposed to taking his talents to Hollywood:

According to people familiar with Howard’s situation, he wants to continue coaching his two sons, Jett and Jace, who both play at Michigan. Howard interviewed for the Lakers job that eventually went to Vogel in 2019.

It's a tough choice between having the opportunity to coach one of the greatest players of all time in LeBron James or coaching your two sons. Apparently, it's the latter that Howard prefers and you really can't blame him.

Prior to taking over the helm for the Wolverines, Howard spent six years as an assistant coach to Erik Spoelstra with the Miami Heat. Before becoming a coach, Howard won two titles also in Miami playing alongside LeBron. He clearly has a connection with James, but it sounds like blood runs thicker than water for the former All-Star big man.
