Lazio has been offered a chance to sign out-of-favor English forward Mason Greenwood on Deadline Day. The 21-year-old has been out of action since January 2022, when his former club Manchester United opened an investigation of a potential rape on him. However, the Red Devils decided to drop their charges and confirm that he was eligible to play competitive football again.

However, Manchester United decided not to retain him in the first-team squad due to the backlash received from the fans. As Greenwood was never going to play for any English club due to his image, he has had limited opportunities from abroad. Now, it is reported that Lazio has been one of the clubs linked with a move for him.

According to the reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, Greenwood and Lazio have been in contact for a potential transfer. The 21-year-old is open to moving to Italy, where he can reunite with many of his former Manchester United team-mates. Currently, Chris Smalling, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, and Romelu Lukaku are all playing in Serie A.

In terms of Greenwood, he will like the move to Lazio as he will get Champions League football. However, this move would need an approval from manager Maurizio Sarri. If Manchester United don't find a suitor for him, they are in a lot of trouble. The Red Devils would need to pay Greenwood the remainder of his contract until he becomes a free agent. The English forward still has two years left on his deal at Old Trafford.
