The next League of Legends champion was recently leaked in the Sentinels of Light event. Continuing the theme of all releases being related to the ongoing Ruination storyline, Vex is set to be the game's 157th champion.

Previously rumored to be Norra, Yuumi's master, it seems those presumptions were wrong. The “Gloomy Mage” teased in previous leaks is Vex, a totally different character. Riot's original teasers described her as a mage that “would rather be alone”. They also stated that she will be a Yordle with “a big part to play in Viego's story.”

Older leaks from April suggest that Riot delayed Vex's release due to her kit being reworked. Originally planned to be an “artillery mage”, she will now be a “traditional burst mage”.

Additionally, she was also described to get “annoyed as hell with hyperactive champions dashing all around her. It’s enough to make her get serious and start clobbering all lifeforms full of irritating happiness dashing around her like pesky flies.” This might suggest a slow ability or some way to mitigate other champions' speed. Due to other League of Legends Yordle champions having elemental magic, we can also assume Vex to have similar powers.

Lead champion producer Ryan “Reav3” Mirales also confirmed on Reddit that Vex will appear in the Sentinel of Light event, but not as a playable champion.

So, knowing all this, when can we expect to see Vex in the lanes? With Akshan coming soon, it will probably be a long while yet.
