Robert Plant stunned Led Zeppelin fans at a recent charity show. The icon performed one of the band's biggest hits, “Stairway to Heaven,” a song he has a complicated relationship with.
The charity show
During a show for The Cancer Platform organized by Duran Druran's Andy Taylor, Plant broke his 16-year drought of “Stairway to Heaven”-less sets. The last time Plant sung the song was when Led Zeppelin played a one-off reunion show at the O2 Arena in London.
That wasn't the only Led Zeppelin song that Plant performed. He performed renditions of “Thank You” and “Black Dog” as well.
Robert Plant was the lead singer for Led Zeppelin from its genesis in 1968 until their breakup in 1980. He has since embarked on a successful solo career. 11 studio albums have been released by Plant, along with five collaboration albums (some of which were done with Jimmy Page).
He's also embarked on a number of concert tours since the Led Zeppelin breakup. In the 2010s, he toured every year from 2013-2018.
“Stairway to Heaven” is one of, if not the most iconic song from the band's back catalog. Guitar shops have heard aspiring guitarists attempt Page's signature riff, and everyone has likely heard the song at some point in their life. The song was written by Plant and Page and was released on November 8, 1971.
Led Zeppelin IV — which is technically untitled — is the album that “Stairway to Heaven” hails from. The album, made up of eight iconic tracks, was released almost 52 years ago.
