Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe has claimed that Ryan Garcia “doesn’t want to fight” Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

Davis took care of business on Saturday, defeating Rolando Romero via a technical knockout in the sixth round to successfully defend his WBA (Regular) lightweight title. While Romero had his way in several rounds over the course of the bout, a clinical power punch by Davis in the sixth round proved to be too much for Romero. In the end, Davis recorded his 25th career victory via knockout.

The attention has now turned to just what is next for Davis at this stage in his career. While there have been outside calls for a fight between Davis and Garcia to come to fruition, Ellerbe does not perceive that the latter wants this bout.

“Ryan don’t want to fight Tank, come on,” Ellerbe said at the post-fight press conference. “Ryan Garcia, he’s a good fighter, I got nothing but respect for him, but he doesn’t want none of that smoke because if he did, he’d make Golden Boy do it.

“I’ve tried on two occasions [to make the Tank vs. Ryan Garcia fight], but some of the reporters seem to forget when they say that ‘Oh, Tank Davis doesn’t want to fight none of the top fighters.’ But they say that Ryan Garcia is a top fighter, but we know what it is.”

Garcia took to Twitter following Gervonta Davis' win over Romero to note that after his next fight on July 16, he is “going to get tank.”

On  Davis’ part, he mentioned after the win that he is open to more fights at lightweight, as he feels “comfortable at 135.”

For now, the wait will continue on whether these two star boxers will square off anytime soon.
