Detroit Lions Matthew Stafford was at one point looking like a scratch against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9. The reserve/COVID-19 is a challenging standard to maneuver, and Stafford is no exception in that regard.

It does appear, however, that the former Georgia Bulldog has a chance to play on Sunday, given that he meets the criteria set forth, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

From Rapoport and his crew's statements, it appears that the 32-year-old has the chance of still making an appearance against the Vikings, given that Stafford continues to test negative for COVID-19.

Stafford was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday, forcing him to also miss practice. According to the team, the quarterback was considered to be in the “high-risk, close contact” status after coming in contact with a non-team personnel that tested positive for the virus. Stafford would have to test negative for five consecutive days in order to be cleared as well.

Despite the possibility of Stafford contracting the virus, the Lions have went on with business as usual and continue to practice ahead of Sunday. He performed exceptionally well in Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts, throwing for 336 yards and three touchdowns. He's completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 1,916 yards, resulting in 13 touchdowns.

If Stafford is unable to participate on Sunday for whatever reason, the Lions will have to deploy second string Chase Daniel in his place. Daniel has completed 70.3 percent of his passes so far this season, and has been a viable option behind Stafford. Inserting him in the starting slot wouldn't be a terrible move if the Lions are forced to do so.
