Former NFL executive and current CBS Sports analyst Scott Pioli will reportedly interview to be the next general manager of the Detroit Lions.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Pioli will interview for the Lions' GM job. Piolo has previously spent time with the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons and has been in the NFL for 27 years.

Pioli was appointed New England's Assistant Director of Player Personnel in 2000. Just one year later, he was named Director as the Pats won their first Super Bowl title.

New England promoted Pioli yet again the following season, as he was named Vice President of Player Personnel. He would hold that position until 2008, with the Pats winning a pair of Super Bowl titles during that span.

Pioli took over as GM of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2009, though the team had a mere 23-41 mark in his time as GM. He will have the chance to get the Lions' job as a potential third chapter in his management career.

Detroit is looking for a new head coach, in addition to a new GM. The Lions fired both Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn after another poor start in 2020, and will look for an organizational reset.

Three internal candidates have already been interviewed for the GM position. Detroit will also reportedly interview current Monday Night Football commentator Louis Riddick, who received a ringing endorsement from Lansing native and NBA legend Magic Johnson.

The Lions are making a point of interviewing a wide range of candidates.

That list now includes Pioli, who will stake his claim to the position next week.
