The Detroit Lions very well could be looking for a running back this offseason. Kerryon Johnson has had his moments, but injuries have slowed him down significantly.

Due to that, Detroit might consider making a switch. And apparently, they could be interested in free agent running back Kenyan Drake.

As Chris Burke pointed out, the Lions tried to get Drake last year. So that makes them obvious candidates for the running back.

He would also be a pretty clear upgrade. While Johnson had his moments, injuries kept him down. And overall, his numbers don't jump off the page.

In eight games, Johnson ended with 403 yards and three touchdowns on 113 carries (3.6 yards per carry). He added 10 receptions for 127 yards and one more touchdown.

Meanwhile, Drake racked up 817 yards and eight touchdowns on 170 carries (4.8 yards per carry). He added 50 receptions for 345 yards. His numbers were even better later in the season, once he left the Miami Dolphins and went to the Arizona Cardinals.

So Drake is an obvious upgrade. However, he also drastically improved his stock at the end of 2019.

Due to that, Drake will have a lot of suitors. He also will not come cheap. That could make things much more difficult on Detroit.

That's likely why Burke points out that LeSean McCoy could also be connected to the Lions. They will probably need to consider a few different options.

That being said, Drake is definitely on their list. He was on the list last year, and since then has only proven himself to be an incredibly talented running back.

The Lions will be pursuing help at the running back position this offseason. Don't be surprised to see them trying to work something out with Drake. Then again, a lot of teams will be going after him.
