LIV Golf has taken the sports world by storm recently, as the financially muscled league has become a legitimate threat to the PGA by catching the attention of some of the world's greatest golfers. Well, they did it again, but there's a twist this time. LIV Golf has succeeded in stealing away one of the PGA's top talents, NBC and Golf Channel analyst David Feherty, per Andrew Marchand of the New York Post.
Golf analyst David Feherty and NBC have parted ways, and he is expected to join the LIV Golf tour’s broadcasts, The Post has learned.
Feherty is expected to be an analyst on the 8-to-10 LIV Golf tournaments each year, according to sources.
NBC's David Feherty will be leaving the network to join LIV Golf's broadcast. The former PGA announcer will be an analyst for the 8-10 tournaments that the rival league plans on holding each year.
Feherty, 63, recently worked as a part of NBC's coverage of the Open Championship this past weekend. It's the latest case of a longtime individual affiliated with the PGA bolting for greener pastures.
Feherty himself was a former golfer, having played in the PGA in the 1980s and 1990s. Now, he's the first broadcaster to join some of the sport's biggest stars, like Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson, in bolting for the rival league.
The former pro then went into broadcasting in the '90s, beginning a career that has made him one of the most recognizable golf analysts.
LIV Golf went for the big-name players. It only makes sense that they would go for the big-name broadcasters too.
