It is an ACC battle as Georgia Tech plays host to Louisville at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. It is time to continue our College Football odds series with a Louisville-Georgia Tech prediction, pick, and how-to-watch.

Last year, Louisville was 8-5 under Scott Satterfield. He would lead the team to a bowl game against Cincinnati, but he would not end up coaching that game. Satterfield is joining the Cincinnati staff as the head coach next year, and Jeff Brohm will take over his alma mater. They will have a huge hole to fill as Malik Cunningham is gone at quarterback. They bring in Jack Plummer, who once played for Brohm at Purdue. The passing game should take a step forward this year under offensive coordinator Brian Brohm. The defense will be a question though. the Louisville defense was solid last year, but many of their top guys are gone and they are replacing them with young and inexperienced players.

The Yellow Jackets enter the season after a 5-7 record in which Brent Key took over and led them to a 4-4 record. The offense comes in looking for production. they were last in third down conversions in the ACC last year, while also being last in passing and plays that resulted in a loss. On defense, they bring in two big transfers who will hope to pan out. If the defense can make a step up, and the line can apply pressure this year, Georgia Tech will hang in a lot of games.

Why Louisville Will Cover The Spread

Jack Plummer joins his old coach at Louisville after playing last year at Cal. In his time at Cal, he threw for 3,095 yards with 21 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He was a quality player at Purdue under Brohm as well. He was over 60 percent passing while tripping for over 3,000 yards and 26 touches with ten interceptions. Plummer will not be as electric as Malik Cunningham, but he does give a strong downfield passing threat that could lead to some big plays. He is also an accurate passer, which will help the efficiency of this offense.

Plummer will be throwing to almost exclusively transfers. Jamari Thrash and Kevin Coleman will be the major ones. Thrash went for 1,122 yards last year at Georgia State while hauling in seven touchdowns. Kevin Coleman was one of the big recruits that Deion Sanders snagged at Jackson State. He went for 510 yards last year and three scores while being the second wide receiver in the offense. He has shown he has a FBS level play and could see more passes thrown his way in this offense. Jamar Johnson could also play a role in this game. Jeff Brohm likes to use the tight end and the 6-5 265 pound freshman is a large target with solid hands. He could be used often in short-yardage passing situations.

The defense should be solid against the run this year. Ashton Gillotte is a large defensive end, and while he does not get the quarterback a lot, he is a good runstop. As if the big defensive tackle from Arizona State. Jermayne Lole is a 320-pound nose tackle that plugs up the middle of the field. Storm Duck and Marquis Groves-Killibrew bring along a lot in the secondary as transfers. If they can make a few key turnovers, Louisville has the potential to run away with this game.

Why Georgia Tech Will Cover The Spread

Georgia Tech has to get more offense than they did last year. They had just 17.2 points per game last year while being lower than 90th in points, total yards, passing yards, and rushing yards. Enter Haynes King. King comes in from Texas A&M and brings a big, but inaccurate arm with him. Last year he passed for 1,220 yards with seven touchdowns while having six interceptions. If he falters, Zach Pyron will get his chance. He is a talented and versatile quarterback. He played well in his chances last year before being lost for the year with an injury.

The offensive line should be improved as well. Last year they played a lot of inexperienced players who struggled. This year, they all have experience, and four of the five guys on the line have starting experience. They will be blocking for Trey Cooley and Dontae Smith. Cooley can both run the ball with speed and catch. In his career at Louisville, he ran for 709 yards and three scores while hitting 4.9 yards per carry. He also caught 21 balls for 239 yards and three scores. dontae Msith returns after running for 420 yards last year and five scores. The combination should be solid for Georgia Tech this year.

the defense was one of the worst in the nation against the run last year, and they aimed to fix that in the offseason. they brought in Braelen Oliver and Andre White from Minnesota and Texas A&M respectively. They were good tacklers last year, but they need to get into the backfield regularly this year. LaMiles Brooks is one of the best defensive backs in the ACC. He is not only good against the pass but can get to the line against the run. He is the biggest threat on the defense, and if he can shine, the Yellow Jackets could improve heavily on defense.

Final Louisville-Georgia Tech Prediction & Pick

Last year these were two evenly matched teams. They finished with the same record in the conference. While Louisville should improve, they have lost their best players to graduation. They will also be breaking in a new offense and a new head coach. Georgia Tech should be much improved on offense as well. Brent Key made this team respectable last season and will be looking to build on that this year. Take the Yellow Jackets to cover in this one.

Final Louisville-Georgia Tech Prediction & Pick: Georgia Tech +7.5  (-115)
