The Mariners make the trip to New York to face the Yankees! These two teams are playing well with the Mariners playing solid baseball, while the Yankees are on a winning streak and they have been red-hot on their way to the top of the AL. Our MLB odds series has our Mariners-Yankees prediction, odds, and pick for Tuesday.

The Mariners have been playing well recently and have a 25-22 record. The Mariners have struggled behind the plate to start the season, but their pitching staff is a top-10 unit in the MLB. Julio Rodriguez, Cal Raleigh, Mitch Haniger, Jorge Polanco, Ty France, and Mitch Garver are standouts for the offense despite its struggles up to this point in the season. Luis Castillo, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, and Bryce Miller have all been at varying levels of great for the Mariners on the mound. This is an interesting matchup against the Yankees and their talent behind the plate. They have the talent on the mound, but the Yankees have been red-hot overall.

The Yankees have been playing very well and have won seven straight towards a 33-15 record. The win streak has catapulted them to the best record in the AL. Their bats have been great this season and their pitching has been even better as the best staff in the MLB. The Yankees have been great across the board this season. Juan Soto is a difference maker to go with Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge, and Anthony Volpe behind the plate. Nestor Cortes, Marcus Stroman, Clarke Schmidt, Luis Gil, and Carlos Rodon have all been at varying levels of good to great on the mound. The Yankees have been great and get a matchup against an inconsistent Mariners team.

Why The Mariners Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Mariners are starting Bryan Woo on the mound where he has a 1-0 record, a 0.93 ERA, and a 0.62 WHIP. Through 9.2 innings, he has allowed one run on four hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. In his two starts this season, the Mariners are 2-0. In his last start, he pitched 5.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits with one walk and five strikeouts in a Mariners win. Woo has been great in a limited capacity and he will be a good matchup for a red-hot Yankees offense behind the plate.

The Mariners have talent on offense, but they have struggled and been inconsistent behind the plate. They are 25th in batting average at .228 after finishing last season with a .242 batting average. Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh lead the way for the Mariners in most of the batting categories. Rodriguez leads the way in batting average at .274, in OBP at .322, and in total hits at 51. Raleigh then leads in home runs at 10 and in RBI at 25. This offense has a tough matchup against Clarke Schmidt on the mound for the Yankees.

Why The Yankees Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Yankees are starting Clarke Schmidt on the mound where he has a 5-1 record, a 2.49 ERA, and a 1.13 WHIP. Schmidt has allowed 15 runs on 42 hits with 15 walks and 55 strikeouts through 50.2 innings. He has started in nine games and the Yankees have gone 8-1 in those games. In his last start, he pitched eight innings and allowed zero runs on three hits with zero walks and eight strikeouts in a Yankees win. This is a favorable matchup for Schmidt because he has been great this year and the Mariners have not found any consistency behind the plate.

The biggest key for the Yankees is going to be their offense, especially after last year. They are ranked eighth in the MLB in team batting average at .256 and that was after finishing last season with a .227 batting average. 13 Yankees have hit at least one home run this season and it has been a massive difference from the previous season. Juan Soto has been the key, leading the way in most batting categories next to Aaron Judge. Soto leads the way in batting average at .311, in RBI at 37, in OBP at .411, and in total hits at 57. Judge then leads the way in home runs at 13 so far on the year. This will be an interesting matchup because Bryan Woo has been great in a limited capacity so far, while the Yankees are one of the best offenses in the MLB.

Final Mariners-Yankees Prediction & Pick

The Mariners do not have the offense to match up with the Yankees. However, the key is going to be pitching with Bryan Woo for the Mariners and then the Yankees are starting Clarke Schmidt. I am going to trust Woo's arm on the mound even against the Yankees. The Mariners should cover the spread, but the Yankees should win the game, just very close.
