With the MLB lockout still in full swing, there's a major story coming out of South Beach. New York Yankees legend and Hall of Famer Derek Jeter has mutually agreed to part ways with the Miami Marlins as their CEO after five seasons.

Jeter also released a statement announcing his decision to cut ties with the Marlins. Per Ken Rosenthal:

This is certainly surprising, but it appears Jeter and Miami were not in agreement with the direction the organization was heading. The 47-year-old joined the Marlins in 2017 and also owned a small percentage of the franchise. They've had losing seasons ever since Jeter joined, with the exception of the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign where the team went 31-29 and lost in the NLDS.

However, the Marlins do have some intriguing prospects in their system and several young, exciting arms. They went 67-95 last season and ended up in fourth place in the NL East. Prior to the lockout, Miami locked up ace Sandy Alcantara for the foreseeable future, while also signing slugger Avisail Garcia.

More information will likely surface as to why Jeter is really leaving the Marlins, but he certainly made a difference from a business standpoint. It will be interesting to see if he ends up in another front office.
