As the second round of The Masters got underway, news broke that former 2010 Open Championship winner Louis Oosthuizen has withdrawn from the tournament. He reportedly withdrew due to injury. On Thursday, Oosthuizen struggled, shooting a 4-over 76 while appearing to be labor throughout his round. The former major champion was grouped with Tiger Woods and Juaquin Niemann, set to tee off Friday at 1:41 ET. But now, that group has become a pairing, creating an advantage for Woods.

Without Oosthuizen on the course, the pairing of Woods and Niemann now have a bit more time each hole. That could prove to be very helpful to Woods, who is still not 100% healed from his car accident 14 months ago. He almost lost his leg in that accident and was forced to have serious orthopedic surgery to his lower extremity.

The group that was scheduled ahead of Woods, Niemann and Oosthuizen featured Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith and Paul Casey. But Casey withdrew on Thursday.

So, not only does this new pairing allow Woods a little more time to walk the course, but it will allow for more patience as well.

The wind is one of the biggest storylines at The Masters thus far. There are gusts up to 30 miles per hour. Typically, the first couple of days in the tournament while still in 3-man groups, you have to hustle to keep the pace of play moving. But now, with a pairing of two ahead of him and Woods himself in a pair with a trio behind them, he will have plenty of time to be patient. If there are large gusts of wind that could affect his shot, he now has an extra minute or two to wait for the winds to die down.

Tiger Woods is looking to make history and win his sixth Green Jacket. That would tie Jack Nicklaus for the most Masters Championships ever. Tiger will enter his second round at 1-under par, tied for 10th as of this writing. A victory at Augusta would also earn Tiger his 16th major championship. Nicklaus is also the leader in this department with 18 major titles. That’s the number to beat and Tiger could take a big step toward that this weekend.
