Nerlens Noel’s former agent, Happy Walters, has refuted ESPN reporter Chris B. Haynes’ reporting regarding his old client.

Haynes initially reported on Twitter the news that Noel had signed with the Dallas Mavericks for the one-year, $4.1 million qualifying offer. He also added that the $17 million per year deal the Mavs reportedly offered to Noel earlier in the summer was “non-existent.”

But Walters, who negotiated with the Mavs on behalf of Noel before he was replaced by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, has hit back at Haynes' claim. He asserts that there was indeed an offer on the table, which Noel passed on.

If Walters’ claim is indeed true, that would mean that Noel passed up the Mavs’ four-year, $70 million offer in order to take the qualifying offer and get back on the market as an unrestricted free agent next season; a massive gamble on Noel’s part.

The market for big men has been depressed this offseason. And with the salary cap not expected to make a sizable jump, it’s hard to see where any offers bigger than what he received from the Mavs will come from next summer.
