Rumors swirled that Oscar-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele met with Marvel Studios — and it's now know that it was about their upcoming MCU X-Men film.
According to One Take News, Peele met with Marvel Studios to discuss their upcoming X-Men film. However, OTN notes that the meeting took place “a long time ago” and “didn't work out.” They did add that there may still be interest between the two parties to work together down the line.
A potential reason for Peele not agreeing to the X-Men project is his desire to write his own script. With all three of his directorial features, Peele wrote and directed the films. With MCU projects, they usually enlist a writer and he may not get the same kind of freedom that he's used to.
Plus, Marvel Studios recently enlisted Michael Lesslie to write their upcoming X-Men film. Lesslie is coming off an adaptation of Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
The MCU's upcoming X-Men film will be their first swing at the team. Since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, they have yet to make a proper X-Men film. Rather, they have slowly integrated characters from the universe into the MCU.
2024 is a quiet year for the MCU. While they have several Disney+ series coming out, their only feature film is Deadpool and Wolverine. 2025 gets the franchise back on track with four films slated to be released (Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four, and Blade).
Who is Jordan Peele?

Jordan Peele is an acclaimed filmmaker who first gained notoriety for his role in Fox's Mad TV. He would subsequently break out on his own with fellow Mad TV star Keegan-Michael Key. Together, they created the Comedy Central sketch comedy series, Key and Peele.
Additionally, the two produced and starred in Keanu. Peele co-wrote the script with Alex Rubens. This wasn't their only appearance together, though, as they also starred in Toy Story 4 together.
As a filmmaker, Peele made a name for himself when he directed Get Out. He wrote, produced, and directed the film, which was a major hit. During its theatrical run, the film grossed over $255 million on a $4.5 million budget. The film was critically acclaimed and received four Oscar nominations including Best Picture. Peele took home the Best Original Screenplay award that night.
He followed that up with Us, another horror film. While it made $256 million, the film also had a significantly larger budget than Peele's previous film ($20 million). Once again, Peele produced, wrote, and directed the film. However, he didn't receive any Oscar nominations for the film.
His latest directorial feature is Nope. The film follows siblings (played by Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer) who capture evidence of a UFO in Agua Dulce, California. Nope grossed over $170 million during its theatrical run.
So far in his career, Peele has stayed away from franchise filmmaking. None of his films feature ties to a bigger IP. But, if you're going to make that jump, the MCU seems like a safe choice. It will be interesting to see if the two parties come together down the line.
