New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso will be looking to make history on Monday night in the 2022 MLB Home Run Derby as he chases his third title in the event. That would make him only the second player ever to win it on three occasions, joining Ken Griffey Jr. While Alonso certainly wants to take home the honors, he's got an even bolder plan for the festivities in LA.

Alonso wants to hit a ball completely out of Dodger Stadium. Via ESPN:

“People tell me all the time that with the Derby balls and the environment that I'd probably be able to put one in the parking lot,” Pete Alonso said. “So I think that'd be fun. Hit one actually outta the stadium.”

There have only been four players in the history of Dodger Stadium to actually hit a ball over the outfield pavilion. Mike Piazza, Giancarlo Stanton, and Mark McGwire are among them. Pete Alonso is hoping to become the fifth. If his 2021 Home Run Derby numbers are any indication, it's certainly a possibility.

In the final last year, the Mets star hit a ball 509 feet, the longest bomb of the entire derby where he ultimately beat Trey Mancini of the Baltimore Orioles. Later in that round, Alonso hit another 508 feet. His home runs averaged a distance of 453 feet in the evening.

Hitting a baseball out of Dodger Stadium might feel like a lofty goal but if there is anyone who is capable of doing so, it's Pete Alonso. We'll see if he can do so.
