Chicago Bulls legend and NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan visited Wilmington, North Carolina on Tuesday to help people who were affected by Hurricane Florence.

Jordan previously donated $2 million for hurricane relief, but felt he needed to do more. So the six-time NBA champion handed out Thanksgiving dinners at a home improvement store and gave away Jordan Brand shoes at a Boys and Girls Club.

Michael Jordan, of course, grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina and is currently the owner of the Charlotte Hornets. MJ says obviously giving money is important, but he wanted to show his face as well.

“I can give money all day long, but at some point you want them to understand you’re human,” Jordan told Steve Reed of the Associated Press. “I wanted to be an igniter to the process. But it’s going to take a long time before things get back to normal. Whatever way I can contribute I will. You really want to trust that money goes to the right people. And when you see it goes to the right people, it makes me feel good that I did the right thing.”

Everyone knows what Michael Jordan accomplished on the basketball court, but his off the court contributions are just as legendary.
