The transfer portal is a major part of the current era of college football, and it could come in handy this offseason for the Michigan football team. The Wolverines are fresh off of a national title, but they lost a lot of talent to the pros from last season, and they are also going through a coaching change. Michigan has added some more players from the transfer portal to reload, but they are hoping to get more in the coming weeks.

Michigan football hosted an intriguing prospect recently as former Georgia Tech football and Tennessee football defensive back Wesley Walker was in Ann Arbor for a visit. The Wolverines are looking to add depth to their secondary, and Walker would be a great addition to the team.

Wesley Walker has five years of college playing experience under his belt as he started his career at Georgia Tech back in 2019. He spent three seasons with the Yellow Jackets before transferring to Tennessee, and he then spent two seasons with the Volunteers. In those five years, Walker has had some productive seasons.

Walker's freshman season was quiet, but he has been a good contributor in each season since then. He has racked up 36 tackles or more in all four of his other college seasons, and he totaled a career-high 53 last season. He also has two sacks in his career, one interception and three forced fumbles. Walker is a veteran player who is going to come in ready to play next season at his new destination.

After Wesley Walker's visit, it sounds like Michigan football has made some good progress toward landing a commitment. Sam Webb of 247 Sports spoke to Walker's stepfather, Patrick Abernathy, after the visit, and he had a lot of positive things to say.

It went exceptionally, actually,” Patrick Abernathy said. “It went exceptionally. He enjoyed it. My wife enjoyed it thoroughly. They really (did). Michigan really has a great setup. He loved what I call pre pro-environment. He really enjoyed how they go about their business a little bit differently, which means a lot. Going from Georgia Tech (in the) ACC, to one of the SEC's top (programs) Tennessee… he told me was no comparison. Which spoke volumes to me exactly what he thought about it.”

Michigan football fans will love hearing that. The Wolverines are hoping to get some more commitments from the transfer portal, and this could be one of them.
