Recruiting is starting to pick up for the Michigan football team. Things had been pretty quiet since winning the national championship in January, but new head coach Sherrone Moore is starting to heat up on the trail. Michigan has now landed two four-stars this week as safety Kainoa Winston announced on Friday that he will be playing for the Wolverines. Michigan also landed defensive lineman Jaylen Williams earlier this week.

“BREAKING: Four-Star Safety Kainoa Winston has Committed to Michigan, he tells me for @on3recruits,” Hayes Fawcett said in a tweet. “The 5’11 195 S from Montgomery Village, MD chose the Wolverines over Penn State, Oregon, & North Carolina.”

Michigan football needed some recruiting momentum, and they have gotten just that this week. Landing Williams got the ball rolling, and the commitment from Kainoa Winston is huge as he is now the highest ranked player in their class.

“I’m A Michigan Man!” Winston said.

Winston is a four-star recruit according to 247 Sports. He is the #43 player in the 2025 recruiting class, the #3 safety and the #1 player in the District of Columbia. He currently attends Gonzaga High School in Washington, DC.

Things are now looking good for the Wolverines on the recruiting trail. There is still a lot of work to be done this summer and they have their eyes on a lot of targets, but things are trending in the right direction.

Now that the Wolverines have added Kainoa Winston, their 2025 recruiting class is in better shape. The Wolverines were not ranked in the top-50 in terms of 2025 recruiting before the week started, but they are now up to #40. Michigan's average player rating is one of the best in the nation at 92.48, but with only seven commits, there are a lot of teams ahead of them in the overall rankings.

Michigan football has now landed a commitment from three defensive linemen, one offensive tackle, one tight end, one quarterback and one safety. All seven players in their 2025 class are four-star recruits.

This summer is obviously going to be crucial for Michigan football recruiting. These are the months when the staff is able to put in the most work, and things are going well so far. There are a lot of official visits to be had, and the Wolverines seem to be trending in a positive direction with a lot of their top targets. After a slow start, it's beginning to look like the class will be just fine for the Wolverines.
