The Los Angeles Angels and the Baltimore Orioles will continue their four-game series as the two teams meet at Camden Yards on Friday. It's time to continue our MLB odds coverage with an Angels-Orioles prediction and pick.

The Orioles defeated the Angels 4-1 on Thursday. Adley Rutschman blasted a solo home run in the second inning, giving the Orioles an early 1-0 lead. It was his fourth in 2022 and the first of his career at Camden Yards. Later, the O's piled on another run when Ryan Mountcastle clipped an RBI double, giving the Orioles a 2-0 advantage. The Orioles never looked back, winning this showdown 4-1. Jordan Lyles tossed six innings, allowing one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts. Jorge Lopez finished the game to secure the save.

Reid Detmers returns to the majors to make the start for the Angels. Detmers is 2-3 with a 4.66 ERA in 12 games started with the Angels in 2022. Aside from the No-Hitter, he has not had a good season. Detmers has not gone past five innings once in any of his starts on the road. Additionally, he is 0-1 with a 6.86 ERA through five road starts. Detmers last pitched for the Angels against the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 15, lasting 3 2/3 innings while allowing four earned runs on four hits, including two home runs.

Tyler Wells starts for the Orioles. Wells is 7-4 with a 3.09 ERA in 2022. Recently, he tossed six innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts. Wells is 2-0 with a 2.20 ERA through six starts at home. He has faced the Angels three times in his career, not allowing a run in all three appearances from the bullpen.

The Angels are 2-2 against the Orioles this season and 1-3 at Camden Yards since 2020.

Why The Angels Could Cover The Spread

The Angels need Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. The two have struggled massively over the last two months, especially Trout.

Trout is batting .265 with 23 home runs, 48 RBIs, and 53 runs scored. Likewise, Trout is batting .375 with two home runs, two RBIs, and four runs scored in four games against the Orioles this season. He is batting .286 with 22 home runs, 42 RBIs, and 59 runs scored through 62 career games against the Orioles. However, he is batting just .252 with 10 home runs, 19 RBIs, and 27 runs scored in 29 career games at Camden Yards.

Ohtani's batting average is now .257 with 18 home runs, 53 RBIs, and 48 runs scored. However, he has been boom-or-bust against the Orioles in 2022, batting .205 with five home runs, eight RBIs, and 13 runs through 19 career games against Baltimore. The Angels need his power and need him to produce. Unfortunately, the offense has averaged 2.94 runs per game since May 31, and Trout and Ohtani have contributed to the decline.

The Angels will cover the spread if Detmers can last past the fifth inning. Additionally, the Angels need to manufacture runs and stop striking out. The Halos are last in baseball with 810 strikeouts. Trout is tied for the team lead in strikeouts with 92, and Ohtani has 83. The batters must adjust at the plate.

Why The Orioles Could Cover The Spread

The Orioles have some nice options with Trey Mancini and Mountcastle.

Mancini is batting .280 with eight home runs, 33 RBIs, and 32 runs scored. Additionally, he is batting .297 with four home runs, 16 RBIs, and 18 runs scored through 35 games at Camden Yards. Mancini is batting .250, going 4 for 16 with one home run, five RBIs, and two runs scored against the Angels in 2022. Alternatively, these stats are better than his career marks against the Angels, where he is batting .208 with six home runs, 15 RBIs, and 18 runs scored through 29 games against the Angels in his career. Mancini is batting .231 with two home runs, four RBIs, and seven runs scored through 13 career games at Camden Yards against the Halos.

Mountcastle is batting .278 with 14 home runs, 42 RBIs, and 35 runs scored. Likewise, he is batting .262 with six home runs, 20 RBIs, and 12 runs scored through 33 games at Camden Yards. Mountcastle is batting .313 with five hits, six RBIs, and two runs scored through four games against the Angels in 2022. However, he has struggled against the Angels throughout his career, batting .256 with 10 hits, two home runs, 10 RBIs, and seven runs through 10 games.

The Orioles will cover the spread if they get a good outing out of Wells, and Mancini and Mountcastle can produce.

Final Angels-Orioles Prediction & Pick

The Angels remain lifeless. They scored one run against a pitcher with an ERA nearing five last night. No one should call Trout and Ohtani the best players in the game because neither player is performing to that mantle. The best players would not be batting under .270. The Orioles have the team with the better momentum right now and a team that would probably crush it in any other division. Expect the Orioles to win and take down the punch-less Angels.

Final Angels-Orioles Prediction & Pick: Orioles: -1.5 (+134)
