The Cleveland Guardians take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Check out our MLB odds series for our Guardians Dodgers prediction and pick.
Shane Bieber gets the start for the Guardians, while Andrew Heaney takes the bump for the Dodgers.

Shane Bieber has a 3.01 ERA. His April ERA was 2.45. In May, he got tagged on several occasions and posted an ERA of just over four runs for the month. In his first few June starts, he has rediscovered his rhythm and has pitched to a 2.50 ERA. Bieber keeps the ball in the yard. He has allowed just five home runs in 71 2/3 innings pitched so far this season. He has walked only 17 hitters, but when he does walk batters, they often score. He ran into some control problems in May and paid a price. As long as he has command of the strike zone, he is a very strong pitcher who gives the Guardians total confidence every time he goes to the hill.

Andrew Heaney gets the spot start for the Dodgers, a result of Walker Buehler's injury and the adjustments it has forced Dave Roberts to make. Heaney was not successful with the New York Yankees, but in two appearances with the Dodgers this season, encompassing 10 1/3 innings, he hasn't yet given up an earned run. He has allowed one unearned run in 2022. This is Heaney's big chance to not only help the Dodgers, but solidify his career after the rough period in the Bronx with the Pinstripes. You can see how well the Yankees are thriving right now with their pitching rotation. It is time for Heaney to make his mark and go toe-to-toe with Shane Bieber, one of the better starters in the American League.

Why The Guardians Could Cover the Spread

The Guardians have the better, more proven starting pitcher in this matchup. Shane Bieber had a little speedbump in May but has shaken off that rough period. Like any good pitcher, he knows how to ride through the ups and downs of a long season and make the needed course corrections to improve how he goes about his business. The Dodgers did bust out with a strong game on Saturday, but Cal Quantrill has struggled on the road for Cleveland this season. Bieber doesn't have those same struggles. He should do well in this game, and on the other side of the field, Andrew Heaney is a mystery for Los Angeles in this game. He hasn't pitched since April. Who knows how effective he will be in this contest? Cleveland has the edge where it counts: pitching.

Why The Dodgers Could Cover the Spread

After breaking loose and posting a big number in Saturday's blowout win over Cleveland, the Dodgers are going to come to the park confident and refreshed. They needed a game like that one on Saturday evening. They needed to remember how good and talented they are. That win was achieved without Mookie Betts. The Dodgers have plenty of talent elsewhere on the roster, and maybe that game will energize them for this Sunday rubber match in the three-game weekend series. Andrew Heaney was good for the Dodgers in his two April appearances. If he is equally good here, there's no doubt the Dodgers will prevail.

Final Guardians-Dodgers Prediction & Pick

This is a stay-away game because Heaney is such a question mark, but if you insist on picking this game, go with Bieber, the proven starter.
