Minnesota Twins right-hander Jose Berrios is a hot commodity ahead of the July 31st MLB Trade Deadline. Lots of teams are looking to bolster their staff with pitching and according to Jon Morosi of the MLB Network, The Dodgers and Padres are the two main clubs battling it out for Berrios:

There are obviously other teams as well showing interest in Jose Berrios, but these two NL West rivals seem to be the frontrunners.

LA, who is chasing the Giants in their division, desperately needs another proven starter after the whole Trevor Bauer fiasco. His future in the big leagues is in doubt right now and it's unknown if he'll even pitch again this season. With Clayton Kershaw and Dustin May also injured, the need for Jose Berrios is growing.

As for the Padres, they already have a very solid staff who sport a 3.50 ERA, which is fourth in the majors. But, San Diego has already made it known they're actively in the market for starting pitching ahead of the trade deadline.

Jose Berrios is enjoying a terrific campaign for the struggling Twins, posting 3.48 ERA while striking out 126 in 121.2 innings of work. The two-time All-Star doesn't plan to give Minnesota any type of discount on an extension, which has seen the organization explore trade opportunities for him. The Puerto Rican would certainly be a nice addition to any contender as the playoff race heats up over the next two months.
