In what was essentially inevitable for months, the Chicago White Sox clinched the AL Central following their 7-2 seven-inning win over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday.

This is the first AL Central title for the White Sox since the 2008 season.

Typically, when a team clinches a division title in baseball, it brings out for celebrations within the players. But for White Sox star shortstop Tim Anderson, who homered twice against the Indians today, he sees that this is only the beginning with his team's quest to claim a World Series title.

“It only starts here,” Anderson said. “Now it's time for the real baseball. We just gotta to continue to keep playing. It's going to be fun. I am excited.”

If the season were to end today, the White Sox would be in for a showdown with the Houston Astros in the American League Division Series. Chicago finished the season series against Houston with a 2-5 record. Still, this sure would make for a must-watch playoff series between two teams that have what it takes to make a run to the World Series this season.

For now, the White Sox still have key matchups in regular season play, including a two-game series against the Cincinnati Reds. Even as Chicago has already clinched the AL Central, Anderson does not want his team to let up at this late stage in the season.

“We gotta keep our foot on the gas, we can't let up,” Anderson said. “We gotta continue to keep the same momentum going until October and just keep having fun.”

The White Sox still have a golden opportunity to clinch their first 90-plus win season since the 2006 campaign.
