Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson found himself in some hot water after tensions flared during a game late in the 2021 season. When benches cleared during an incident against the Detroit Tigers, Anderson got into trouble after making contact with umpire Tim Timmons. The shortstop appealed the suspension, which pushed it back to the 2022 season, and now has revealed his official punishment ahead of Opening Day. Anderson took to Twitter to reveal he'd been handed a $10,000 fine and will be suspended for the first two games of the 2022 regular season.

Anderson explained his side of things to reporters after the incident went down, suggesting he was being pushed from behind by Timmons amid the bench-clearing brawl. The White Sox star said his natural reaction was to turn around and shove whoever was pushing him, which just so happened to be an umpire.

“[Timmons] was pushing me,” Anderson said via The Chicago Tribune. “I didn’t realize who he was because he was so close to pushing me. What’s your reaction when someone pushes you? To push him off of you. So I pushed him off of me and I realized it was him, but at that point it’s too late. But yeah, I pushed him. But he started it. He initiated it. I just pushed him back. I pushed him off of me. Because he was in my space, a little too close.”

Anderson will miss the first two games of the regular season for the White Sox, but will be back in the lineup for their third game of the year against the Tigers.

Last season, Anderson slashed .309/.338/.469 with 17 home runs, 61 RBI, and 18 stolen bases. It was his third consecutive season batting over .300, and he's now reached double-digit home runs in five seasons in a row.
