The New York Mets fan who went viral on Tuesday for risking his baby to catch a home run ball over the railings at Citi Field has finally spoken out with what he deems as an overreaction to his move.
To recall, videos of the catch went viral on Tuesday for the rather dangerous situation that the said fan put his baby on. It happened in the first inning of the Mets' showdown with the Washington Nationals after Starling Marte hit a home run to center field.
As clearly seen from the videos of the incident, the fan was a little off balanced after extending his one arm to catch the ball from falling on an area without seatsâall while clinging onto his baby with his other arm. Fortunately the child was safe while holding onto his father.

In an interview with TMZ, however, the Mets fanâidentified as Alan Alcantaraânoted that his catch wasn't as dangerous as it seemed during the broadcast.
âIt was not like there was a hole there where the kid was going to drop and die,â Alcantara explained.
He also noted that he was confident catching the ball with one hand and with no gloves, as he has done barehanded catches before.
âIn Dominican Republic, we don't all get to have gloves, so we do play baseball barehanded, so I figured I could do it,â Alcantara added. âI did it many times when I was a kid, so why not?â
The important thing is the kid is safe, that's for sure.
