Although the New York Mets are enjoying a very successful 2022 season, they should look to make some moves at the 2022 MLB trade deadline. They could use some more slugging as the playoff race heats up.
As the rumors surrounding a potential Juan Soto trade continue to swirl, New York is expressing interest in another slugger for the time being. According to Robert Murray of Fansided, the Mets are one of several teams that are looking into Daniel Vogelbach.
“The Mets are among the teams expressing interest in Pittsburgh Pirates’ first baseman Daniel Vogelbach, sources said,” writes Murray. “The Pirates, however, are in a position where they can hold out for a better return – he has 12 home runs in 237 at-bats – and has a cheap $1.5 million team option for 2023.”

With Pete Alonso holding it down at first base, Vogelbach could slide into the designated hitter spot and provide some much-needed power hitting for the Mets.
The Pirates are in rebuild mode despite signing star outfielder Bryan Reynolds to a contract extension this past offseason. The 29-year-old Vogelbach should be on the move, though. With other teams looking into trading for him, the Mets could find themselves in a bidding war.
The Mets will have to weigh their odds of acquiring Soto when engaging in trade talks for Vogelbach. New York should still look into acquiring both of them in order to help their playoff chase.
