After the Toronto Blue Jays lost in the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7, 5-4, it was no doubt a thrilling game that ended up being heartbreaking for the home team. While the focus on Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer is on his potential retirement, he speaks about the loss that will have fans proud of the team.
Scherzer has been in the MLB since 2008, being a part of seven teams, including Toronto, but said after the Game 7 defeat that he is at the point where he loves baseball the most. He would even say that his “love of the game” comes from how passionate the team is around him, according to Jesse Rogers of ESPN.
“I'm 41 years old and I never thought I could love baseball this much,” Scherzer said while wiping away tears. “My love for the game was so strong because of their love for the game.”
“That loss is so tough because you're so close to everybody,” Scherzer continued. “This team had that closeness, had that camaraderie. We had that passion not only for the game but for each other.”
The veteran pitcher would get the start in Game 7, having a solid game as he threw 4.1 innings, striking out three, walking one batter, while giving up one earned run and four hits total.
Max Scherzer on how this Blue Jays team stacks with others

It's no doubt an emotional time for the Blue Jays, since they haven't made it to a World Series or won one since 1993, but it was a special year nonetheless. Scherzer would even say that this Toronto team is “right up there with all of them,” according to SportsNet.ca.
“I've been part of some special groups,” Scherzer said. “This one's right up there with all of them in terms of how we played, how we cared about each other. I've had that feeling on the other teams, and this team had that.”
“That's the character,” Scherzer continued when speaking about having a chance to win in the ninth inning. “We always came back. We always found a way to come back. Unfortunately, we needed one more…Proud to be a Blue Jay.”
Regarding Scherzer possibly retiring, he would say that while a full answer will be given later, he can't imagine that it was his last appearance. There's no denying that Scherzer and the Blue Jays will have championship aspirations.
