The Walt Disney Company held its annual Disney Investor Day presentation on Thursday, and announced original movies based on the real-life stories of two NBA All-Stars: Giannis Antetokounmpo and Chris Paul.

Both films will eventually be released on Disney+, along with a movie about former Oregon Ducks wide receiver and current UCLA assistant coach Keanon Lowe. Lowe won a Congressional Medal of Honor for non-violently disarming a gunman at Portland’s Parkrose High School in 2019.

The news of a Disney project based on Antetokounmpo's life was not unexpected. In August, casting calls went out for a movie titled “The Greek Freak”, with the following description (per Cast It Talent):

“The story of NBA players GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO and his brother THANASIS. This story recounts their rise, with the help of their family, from undocumented Nigerian immigrants, living in Greece to basketball superstars in America.”

Disney was looking for a young actor to play the two-time MVP at 13-15 years old and 15-18 years old.

The entertainment conglomerate announced a batch of upcoming sports-related content on Thursday. The various projects will be released across the Disney network of streaming channels over the next few years.

Stephen A. Smith will be getting an ESPN+ show, beginning in January. The streaming service will also be launching a daily morning sports and highlight program.

ESPN and the SEC reached a 10-year deal that will give Disney exclusive broadcast rights to the conference's basketball and football games, starting in 2024.

A nine-part Tom Brady docuseries “Man in the Arena“, which will focus on the QB's nine trips to the Super Bowl, is set to hit ESPN+ in March.

Peyton Manning's ESPN+ show, “Peyton's Places”, will get a third season that will highlight stories beyond football.

It should be interesting to see the stories of two of the NBA's brightest stars on the big screen.
