Are you a fan of the 1992 Dream Team? Do you have hundreds of thousands of dollars lying around? Well, you're in luck, because former Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson will have his jersey from the Olympics sold at auction on Wednesday.
According to TMZ Sports, the jersey on the auction block was worn by Johnson during their quarterfinals game against Puerto Rico — a match that saw Team USA secure a 115-77 blowout victory. In the showdown, Magic recorded 13 points and seven dimes.
Moreover, Johnson's jersey that will be auctioned is reportedly the “first and only photo matched Dream Team jersey in existence.” With that said, it is expected to fetch $150,000 or more.
Johnson, along with Hall of Fame players like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Scottie Pippen, Patrick Ewing, David Robinson and others scorched through international competition en route to the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain — setting a high watermark for overseas basketball.
The Dream Team, until today, is considered the most dominant basketball team ever assembled — hence the nickname.
Johnson resigned as president of the Lakers in April earlier this year after struggling with his executive role in the historic franchise, where he had won five NBA titles as a player in the 1980's next to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Magic Johnson's auctioned jersey is just one part of the American basketball mosaic.
