News came down the wire on Wednesday morning stating that Corey Brewer and the Los Angeles Lakers had agreed to contract buyout. Now that he'll be eligible to sign as a free agent, several teams around the NBA are keeping a keen eye on the situation, including the Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, Utah Jazz, and New Orleans Pelicans.

Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports noted in his recent article that the Thunder have emerged as a front-runners in the Brewer sweepstakes, but it is believed that he will speak to all interested teams after being placed on waivers.

Via Sam Amick of USA TODAY:

“OKC not expected to make any additions until after March 1, I’m told, but Corey Brewer definitely on their radar. T-Wolves, Jazz, Pelicans also expected to be in mix (already mentioned Cavs, Wiz, Portland, Bucks). Teams also monitoring Trevor Booker situation in Philly.”

Brewer, now 31 years of age, has played in 54 games this season, averaging 3.7 points on 45.3 percent shooting from the field and 1.7 rebounds in 12.9 minutes. For a variety of reasons, the former 7th overall pick (2007) had fallen out of the Lakers' rotation, which is what prompted him to seek a buyout.

Brewer does have a relationship with Thunder head coach Billy Donovan. As most NCAA fans know, Donovan coached Brewer at the University of Florida during their championship runs in 2006 and 2007.

Where Brewer will end up playing next remains to be seen. Be sure to keep your browsers locked on ClutchPoints for more updates on this topic as they become available.
