In wake of the tragic passing of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, the league announced that Tuesday's matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers has been postponed, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
As Charania noted, the entire Lakers organization has been “deeply grieving” Bryant and they are “not ready to play basketball right now.”
The nature of the incident was horrendous enough, but how the Lakers team found out about it was rough. They learned about Bryant's death while the team was on a plane ride back from Philadelphia following the performance when LeBron James surpassed Bryant on the NBA's all-time scoring leaderboard.
The Lakers' organization is understandably in shock about the incident and they have yet to release a statement about it. According to Mark Fischer of the New York Post, The team brought in grief counselors to help the players and members of the organization cope with the situation.
The Lakers brought in grief counselors to help cope with the shocking death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who was among the nine killed Sunday morning in a Southern California helicopter crash.
Kobe Bryant's career with the Lakers was truly legendary, and he left an unparalleled mark on the Los Angeles community, the United States, and the rest of the world. He will forever be remembered as one of the greatest players to ever pick up a basketball while leaving a lasting impact through his off-court contributions, too.
It's unknown when the matchup between the Lakers and Clippers will be re-scheduled, but that's clearly not what's important right now.
