Why The 76ers Could Cover The Spread
The Philadelphia 76ers have been having a solid season. Through their first 27 games they have managed to win 15. This team has had to overcome some struggles this season, but they seem to finally be trending in the right direction. They are coming off arguably their most impressive win of the season, a 9 point victory over the Golden State Warriors. The Sixers will look to carry that same energy into another tough match up on Monday. If Philadelphia can repeat their last performance then they should have no problem winning this game.
The Sixers were extremely impressive in their win over the Warriors. From a statistical standpoint they played very solid all around basketball. Philadelphia managed to keep up with the Warriors scoring, and actually made threes at a higher percentage than Golden State. The biggest factor that led to the Sixers victory was their defense. Philadelphia held Steph Curry to only 18 points, and the leading scorer of the Warriors in that game, Jordan Poole, only had 23. The Sixers locked down one of the best offenses in the NBA. If they can continue to play solid all around basketball and lockdown defense, then they should get the win on Monday.
Leading the way for this Sixers team is Joel Embiid. Embiid is one of the most dominant big men in the NBA. He has the ability to take over games like no other Center. In their win over the Warriors, Embiid had 26 points and 9 rebounds. This type of stat line is very typical for the big man. On the season he is averaging over 24 points and nearly 11 rebounds a game. Embiid will play a big part in Monday's game. If he can continue to dominate down low, then the rest of the Sixers offense should be able to get going. Look for Embiid to have another big night.
Why The Grizzlies Could Cover The Spread
The Memphis Grizzlies have actually been pretty impressive this season. Through their first 27 games they have managed to win 16. The Grizzlies are coming off back to back wins, with their most recent win coming against the Rockets by 7. Memphis will look to extend their win streak to three on Monday. They have been playing very solid basketball and will need to step things up if they want to beat the Sixers. Philadelphia is a tough opponent, but the Grizzlies have shown that they can beat top competition.
In their win over the Rockets, Memphis and Houston were nearly even across most statistics. The Grizzlies had the edge in scoring, which is what ultimately led to their victory. Memphis made two more shots and three more free throws than Houston. However, the Rockets had more rebounds and more assists than the Grizzlies. Another difference maker was turnovers. The Rockets had 5 more turnovers than the Grizzlies, which is likely a big reason that Memphis was able to pull out this victory. Philadelphia is a tougher opponent than Houston, so if Memphis wants to win this game they will need to kick things up a notch.
Leading the way for Memphis has been Dillon Brooks. While the Grizzlies may be without their star point guard, Brooks has managed to step up and take on a big portion of the scoring for this team. In their win over Houston, Brooks had 25 points. When this team needs offense they turn to Brooks. On the season he is averaging nearly 18 points per game. If he can continue to put up numbers, then this Grizzlies team should remain competitive. Expect Brooks to potentially have another big night in a tough match up.

This is an interesting pick. The Sixers are definitely the better team, but they sometimes have this problem of playing down to their competition. Memphis could potentially take advantage of this, and if they step things up on Monday they could pull off this upset. However, there is no guarantee that will happen and Philadelphia is definitely the safer pick. The 76ers are the better team and should be able to get this win on Monday.
