The Miami Heat recently fell out of the top spot in the East. They are coming off of a loss to the Toronto Raptors 110-106 on the road where there weren’t any fans. Well actually, some popstar named Drake made an appearance and was found sitting next to Raptors’ president Masai Ujuri in the empty seats. He could have been the reason for the Raptors dub over the Heat. Despite the loss, the Heat are still in second place in the East with a (32-20) record.
The San Antonio Spurs are struggling right now but are coming off a close loss to the Golden State Warriors 124-120. The Spurs are (19-33) on the season which puts them 12th in the West. They need to go on run now or else they will miss the postseason for the second-straight season. This matchup could be a good one but it definitely won’t have the same type of hype during the NBA Finals matchups back in 2012-14.

Why The Heat Could Cover The Spread
Miami should have no problem covering this spread. San Antonio has kept a lot of their games close recently, however, and they have all been against solid teams. The Spurs just had the toughest stretch of games anyone in the league could possibly have, as they faced the top-5 teams in the league via record all in a row. That streak ends tonight as they take on the second-place Heat. The Spurs schedule finally gets easier but it’s crazy to think that they had to go up against the top teams all in a row. They did manage to beat the Bulls on Jan 28, so they haven’t gone completely swept.
If the Heat want to cover this spread, they must do it on the defensive side of the floor. The Spurs are keeping all their games close and with a spread like this, San Antonio could do it again if the Heat aren’t careful. Miami needs to contain Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson. Those two are running the show for the Spurs and they are playing well lately. Doug McDermott is shooting 42.3% from beyond the arc this season as he has been one of the better shooters this season. Miami needs to make sure the Spurs don’t catch fire from three and then they should be in a position to cover this spread.
Why The Spurs Could Cover The Spread
San Antonio is good against the spread this season going 27-25 on the year. Miami is also good ATS at 29-23 but like said earlier, the Spurs find a way to keep games close. With the way they have been playing against the elite teams, they should be able to cover this spread at home. Unfortunately for the Spurs, they have not played well at home this season going just 10-17. Miami is dead even at 14-14 on the road so that makes it even harder to figure out who has the edge in that stat.
San Antonio has an even better chance of covering this spread with the absence of Kyle Lowry for the Heat. Without Lowry, the Heat will need to rely on Gabe Vincent and Duncan Robinson to fill that void. Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, and Jimmy Butler are all playing well so the Spurs must find a way to disrupt their flow.
Final Heat-Spurs Prediction & Pick
I think the Heat are the better team and will win this game. But, I am taking the Spurs to cover this spread at home because they have kept all their games close against the top teams lately. That should continue for the Spurs.
Final Heat-Spurs Prediction & Pick: Spurs +6 (-106)
