The NBA will continue Saturday night with this Eastern Conference matchup! It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Nets-Heat prediction and pick.
The Brooklyn Nets are coming off one of the biggest blockbuster trades in a very long time. They acquired Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, and two future first-round picks from the Philadelphia 76ers for James Harden and Paul Millsap. Both of these teams wanted to get the deal done and it happened. The Nets desperately need a win and the Sixers now have a chance to contend for the NBA Finals. Brooklyn has lost 10-straight games and is quickly falling down the Eastern standings. They are currently 8th with a (29-26) record.
The Miami Heat are in a completely different spot right now which is clearly better than Brooklyn's position. Miami leads the East with a (36-20) record. The Heat have won four in a row and defeated the New Orleans Pelicans last time out 112-97. The team is starting to get healthier which is a good sign as the second half of the season is approaching. Kyrie Irving will play for the Nets tonight so this should get interesting.

Why The Nets Could Cover The Spread
Article Continues BelowIrving is set to play tonight but I don't expect Ben Simmons to be playing. Curry and Drummond could play tonight against the Heat which would give them a better chance. Irving is coming off of a 31-point game against the Washington Wizards and Cam Thomas scored 27 in the loss. If those two can have a similar outing then the Nets will certainly have a chance at covering this large spread. Patty Mills and Blake Griffin need to step up as well and establish their veteran presence.
Brooklyn comes in as an 11-point underdog. That is a large spread but the Nets can't buy a win right now. They covered in their last game but seem unlikely to cover here because of the opponent. Miami can easily run them out of the building. Tyler Herro will be out for the Heat but they still have plenty of depth to easily bet the Nets here. The Nets are averaging just 106 points per game and allowing 119.7 points over their last 10 games.
Why The Heat Could Cover The Spread
This is a large spread, but the Heat can cover this spread easily. They come in as the favorites at home which is clearly the right call. Miami is (7-3) over their last 10 games averaging 111 points. they are allowing just 105 in that span which is among the best in the NBA. Jimmy Butler has been doing what he always does which is leading a team to the top of the standings. He's averaging 23.7 points in his last 10 games. If Butler and Bam Adebayo are on their game then the Heat are a real problem in the East. With the shooting ability from Herro and Duncan Robinson as well, the Heat create nightmares for opposing defenders.
Miami is (22-12) against the East while the Nets are still good at (20-11). The Nets have been primarily losing to Western Conference opponents as they are (9-15) against the West.
Final Nets-Heat Prediction & Pick
This is too tough of a spread to choose because I have no idea what the Nets will look like. I do believe, however, that this will be a low-scoring affair. Take the under and hope that there is at least some sense of defense tonight.
Final Nets-Heat Prediction & Pick: Under: 220 (-110)
