The Charlotte Hornets are leaning into their identity as a fun, energetic team by acquiring Montrezl Harrell from the Washington Wizards. According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, the Wizards will receive Vernon Carey Jr., Ish Smith and a second-round draft selection.

The Hornets have been in need of a more dependable center throughout the season. They now have one in Harrell, a feisty interior scorer that will thrive in Charlotte's up-tempo offense. This season, he is averaging 14.1 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting 64.5 percent from the field. He will be a sizable upgrade over Mason Plumlee and a great lob target for LaMelo Ball.

Charlotte is ninth in the Eastern Conference and looking to add more firepower as they pursue a playoff berth. They still have defensive concerns that Harrell won't be much of a fix for. Still, they are fortifying the strength of their team and could find a playoff berth by doing so.

Washington, meanwhile, adds a draft pick and a young center in the 20-year-old Carey. The Wizards also welcome the veteran point guard Smith back. He spent the prior two seasons with them. Neither of them is set to play a huge role with the Wizards.

The Wizards are shaking up their roster in a big way as the trade deadline draws to a close, sending Spencer Dinwiddie to the Dallas Mavericks and receiving Kristaps Porzingis in a huge move. They also traded Aaron Holiday to the Phoenix Suns.
